La Chispa The Spark edition by Perry McFarlin Literature Fiction eBooks

I loved this book! It made me want to go down to Washington DC and start my own mini-protest! Mr. McFarlin obviously has a good grip on history and the workings of our government, this book actually helped me understand more....I looked up the meaning of "La Chispa"- it means "The Spark" in Spanish...maybe if every one of us got that "spark", we'd find more satisafaction with how our government is run because WE the people would be in charge! Good job Mr McFarlin....more please...Sandy Sandford

La Chispa The Spark edition by Perry McFarlin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. While it is fiction, it made me stop and think a lot about the precarious situation we are in with our government right now. The main characters are easy for most middle-class people to relate to. I liked the fast paced action - things snowball quickly and keep you reading to find out what will happen next. Great job Mr McFarland - I look forward to reading more of your books in the future.
La Chispa
(The Spark) Is a great read! Full of suspense, I thought these events could actually happen. The author did a wonderful job; this book was hard to put down to go to work and to sleep. Our politicians should take notice that the political moderate majority is tired of the status quo. Stop the government spending. If a company is too big to fail it is too big. We are not just Democrats and Republicans we are Americans. Support Americans now.
I have never reviewed a book before but this is a good place to start,.

I was riveted to this amazing story from start to finish. This is believable and frightening fiction. Not like terror but in terms of what really could. Become relityfor allof us. No American is untouched by how the government haa the potential to intrude in every aspect of its citizens lives, and most likely is already doing so . In this book, the revolutionaries are everyone - old, young, rich, poor, military, government workers and people in all walks of life It all ties together quite nicely, as great writers can untangle the various plots that re weaving their way from page to page during the book

This book will both entertain and scare you. I recommend this as aa great read. I feel like I need to go prepare for an upcoming hurricane.
La Chispa is a fast paced and riveting read. Although a fictional story, Perry McFarlin's use of historical events, combine with many of the current problems we face as a nation, blend seamlessly into the fabric of the story to create a sense of believability. The story follows the lives of the Snyder family, a family in crisis and the victims of a system that has failed them. The characters he has created are authentic, approachable and easy to relate to which allows the reader to envision themselves in the position the Snyder's have been thrown into. The story ends, leaving the reader anxious for the next installment.

I thoroughly enjoyed the read and look forward to what comes next. Mr McFarlin is a talented writer and someone I'm certain we will be hearing from again.
The new healthcare legislation cost William Snider his job and home. As his middle class life falls apart, anger against the government brews. In an attempt to calm her husband's growing storm, Sarah plans a family trip to Washington D.C. Nearly broke they walk along the National Mall with their children. Through a series of believable events; they experience the "true underbelly" of today's government. However, in another believable plot point, the author, Perry McFarlin, shows how podcasters and flash mobs could today change the course of history at such an epic moment. This moment becomes the spark that the author uses for his title, La Chispa.

The first portion of the story closely follows the Snider family and is largely shown to us through events in the plot. This is the best-written, most compelling part of the story. Within this first section there are a number of excellent lines, such as "putting plume to parchment," and a home with "all the luxuries that credit cards could fill it with," that show the talent of the author.

With many stories in this genre, I have trouble believing how the crisis could start, but McFarlin does that well. However, as the story continues, the reader is introduced to a host of new characters from police officers to gang members and the President. Each has a role to play in events that spark the coming revolution. This may reflect how events often happen in reality, many people playing their small role in the grand scheme of history, but as the Snider family fell into the background and new characters moved to the forefront I wondered where the story was going. I began to doubt that McFarlin would tie up the loose ends by the Epilogue. To his credit, he does manage to tie up most of the loose ends.

Perry McFarlin has both talent and potential, but he will need to tighten up his plots and follow that old writers adage, show don't tell, if he intends to reach a wider audience. Nevertheless, within the militia-TEOWAWKI genre, La Chispa is a good read. I suspect that we will be seeing more and better stories from him in the near future.
Not usually the type of books I read but I didn't want to put it down and would definitely recommend to others.
With all of the unrest and instability in our country right now, one can actually believe that something as horrible as this revolt could happen here at anytime! Of course, it really helped that much of the story flashes back to Iowa and the places I am very familiar with, as that is where I lived the first 52 years of my life! Thank you Mr McFarlin for a well written, riveting book, looking forward to reading many more from you!!
