Well! Well! Well! Pamela Samuels Young has done it again. Lawful Deception is the biggest pot of hot mess that I've seen in a mighty long time and I absolutely loved it!!! Where do I begin? Ok, Bliss Fenton is scandalous, greedy yet smart. This chick figures out a way to get what she wants in abundance plus some.The problem with greed is that it makes you cross lines that clearly shouldn't be approached. Hence the consequences. Enter Fletcher McClain, music Mogul and typical male. His affinity for the striking beauty Bliss lands him in a spot so tight that his attorney Vernetta Henderson almost had to grease him to try to get him out.
This book would so greatly be served as a movie because this cast of lead and supporting characters played their parts to perfection. Some things I guessed correctly and on other parts I was dead wrong. This is a very interesting and entertaining mystery. Very well done! FIVE STARS!!!!

Pamela Samuels Young has created a very interesting character in Vernetta Henderson, who accurately describes herself by telling her significant other, ‘Just be thankful you have a woman who’s smart in every aspect of her life’.
In this book, Vernetta steps a bit out of her field of legal expertise to venture into the area of Family Law. As in the previous books, there is an emphasis on personal relationships. This focus extends not only to the characters involved in the legal case but to the personal relationships of Vernetta and her best friend, Special. This is a well written and enjoyable stand alone book that kept my interest until the satisfying conclusion.
This story will pull you right into "baby mama" drama. Bliss Fenton is a serious piece of work with 3 children by 3 men. She goes way beyond just trying to take care of her children like most women. She wants everything that she can get from them and is never satisfied. Her devious ways brings Vernetta Henderson in to defend Fletcher McClain against Bliss's claims that he is the father of her baby girl.
Things get crazy as Bliss and Fletcher go at it. This time Bliss has antagonized way too many people in her greed for more money. This is simply a must read that will have you on the edge of your seat. As always, Pamela Samuels Young does an excellent job crafting a story.
One of the BEST legal thriller authors in the USA. I recommend this book to everyone. As a lawyer, I respect writers who present readers with a fair and accurate representation of the legal process. There are just too many misrepresentations and citizens are being exploited and misled to their serious detriment. This and all books in this series, authored by Pamela Samuels Young are sufficiently engaging so as to encourage a true education about our laws and process. Thank you, Attorney Young. Your contributions are a public service. Readers now have the means to protect themselves. Please get us your next book! Oh, and btw when will at least one of these be made into a movie?! Now more than ever!
Bliss is what Kanye West and Jamie Foxx sang about...Gold digger. She knows how to make a living off of wealthy men and that's very dangerous. This is a Vernetta story along with her friend Special. Special is still special. Can you be in a relationship with someone with a disability? Girlie Cortez returns with more tricks than magician. Girlie needs the money and she will take this outrageous case. There are lies, lies, lies that's leads to murder. Everyone has some form of alibis. Who committed the murder? Everybody has a reason. My book club, Ladies of Color Turning Pages, are going to discuss this page turner on Sunday. Pamela has really done her research. Some of the things that Bliss does is unthinkable but genius. Vernetta has her hands full with these cast of characters. These characters will stay with you long after the story is over. Bravo for Pamela Samuels Young!
Wow, what an intriguing and enlightening trip into the legal system and the question of birth, parenthood, and responsibilities! The situation was, I hope, unlikely, but it brought forward a lot of questions what is the responsibility of any male who ever had sex with a fertile female? What about sperm donors? What if said male has stated unequivocally that he is not interested in fathering a child with her, and has subsequently done his best to prevent such parenthood? And what if she pokes holes in his condom (not the situation in this book, but still a related scenario)?.
The biological mother in this book was generally disliked (and rightfully so), conniving, and selfish. She had three children – with three separate fathers – with the sole goal of getting large amounts of child support (and using it to greatly benefit her own life and circumstances) from them; they were all very wealthy man. She tricked all of them (with one possible exception) into fathering her children with no thought of the actual children or the relationships that were being sort of shredded! The only thing I disliked was the ending. The villain, who actually committed the murder, was painted as insane and working through a mental defect instead of just being represented as evil! You can be a conniving selfish witch, but that doesn't mean that your murderer isn't evil!
I liked that so much time was spent on personalities and development of same. Of course, in so doing, the author cause the reader to strongly dislike most of the characters! But it was still a well-rounded story with good developments and motivations – despite the fact that a lot of these motivations were disliked; that doesn't change the fact that they were believable. Overall, a satisfying book, despite some of the questions brought about the legal system and how it really would approach the fatherhood situations!
