A very unusual kind of storyline, The Delivery was the perfect read to mix things up a bit for me.The unexpected romance between Lana and Mozey. Social worker and client. Neither saw the other coming but once they were in a room together, the fireworks were undeniable. Although we don't quite get why Mozey was so in lust with Lana right off the bat, the description of the very sexy, very handsome Latino made it apparent why Lana could barely form two words whenever he was around.
I loved that there is so much more to this story than just a so-called forbidden love. Separated into two parts and told in Lana's POV, we get to see what happens when she abandons her job, her boyfriend and her safe world and goes to help Mozey find his sister and some semblance of peace, in Mexico. It was great to watch Lana step out of her comfort zone and risk it all for the man she has certainly fallen in love with. Time and again, they don't quite find they can consummate their relationship but that doesn't mean they don't find ways to show the other just how much they are attracted to one another. The artistic passion Mozey puts into his illegal work on the side of buildings just makes Lana want him more. He is the spark that has her world exploding and although it feels wrong, loving him has never felt so right.
It's a wild ride with plenty of moments that will make you gasp out loud. Mozey is sex personified and his slow seduction of Lana was at times off the charts erotic and other times I was as frustrated as they were that they didn't have sex. But it's all worth it in the end and together with some great secondary characters, this book was definitely worth my time.
When you're looking for the unusual story because everything seems to be the same old thing, give this one a try. It's a good one!

Mara's dialogue was snarky, witty, and intelligent. The Delivery was a forbidden romance between a client and a social worker. Mozey was an eighteen year old Mexican juvenile delinquent and Lana was a twenty-five year old American-Russian immigrant.
Lana maintained professionalism with her clients always focusing on helping them succeed until Mozey. Mozey was the forbidden fruit that tempted her from the moment she looked at his case file. She tried to adhere to her rules, procedures, and boundaries to protect herself from the temptations he caused to her libido.
Mozey was an artist that painted murals on buildings. He was from Mexico living in Detroit. Mozey was a complex character that had a horrific past that carved his future.
For me their were too many road blocks between Mozey and Lana. Lana's character had too many excuses for pushing him away. Lana struggled with her feelings for Mozey deflecting it was unprofessional to have a relationship with him. Then it was the age difference. But mostly it was her fear. She was confused and unfamiliar with this type of attraction. Lana did not trust in love easily. Maybe it was her heritage or being immigrated to the US at a young age. I could not figure it out nor did I really care. Lana struggled to assimilate with others when she first immigrated causing her to have trouble forming friendships.
Lana's character was beyond frustrating. One minute she was delving out excuses why she could not be with Mozey and the next she was scrambling to locate him. Lana's character was a perpetual worrier. Whether she worried about her job, her parents, Mozey, or her image.
I grew tired of her constantly labeling Mozey as a juvenile delinquent. Yes he was young and yes he got in trouble with the law but had talent that was illustrated in those murals.
Lana's like those shoppers who have buyers remorse after spending money on products they don't need. Lana fantasized about sex with Mozey yet when he was present she had her doubts and the guilt stepped in.
Mara created two cultural characters showing both the Mexican and Russian heritage. The connection felt forced trying to mix races creating an unconventional romance. Mara achieved unconventional. I just did not feel the connection regardless of race.
Mara created some fond and memorable scenes with the characters but they were few and far between.
Lana's character battled between insecure and secure. She was secure in her career choices but very insecure about herself as an immigrant.
Where does all this fear and hesitation stem from, in Lana? If anything it should have been Mozey who had fear and hesitation given the way he came into the US.
In a crazy and weird way Mara drummed up some bizarre circumstances to test the love of these two characters. This story had too many loop holes. I had issues with the transitions.
Reviewing a Mara White book is a bit like clenching your hand to your heart. Her books are roller-coaster rides of emotions and THE DELIVERY is no different. Sexy, real, emotional and very gritty, Lana and Mozey will steal your heart even as you stand by in disbelief at the choices Lana makes along the way. But that’s like real life, no?
Lana is struggling to make ends meet, doing what she loves, helping at-risk kids. Her inner voice is often hilarious, which I appreciated in order to alleviate some of the almost unbearable tension in this story.
“Mozey is a ten. Ten for personality and a ... TEN for the swimsuit competition. Get the sash and the crown. He’s already won. Even my mascara is running.”
You know the inevitable is going to happen between these two but even though there is a bit of insta-love, their relationship is a slow-burn and unfolds over the span of time. And when they do get together, WOW!!
“This is a kiss. This is the kiss I will never, ever forget. I may forget everything else, my own name included, but I know I will never forget how I feel in this moment. I won’t forget his kiss.”
This is a forbidden romance, but don’t be put off by Mozey’s age when they first meet. This book is a whirlwind! I absolutely loved the author’s writing style in The Delivery, it made the story very fresh and different.
Despite the grittiness of this story, Mara White is a romantic at heart, and the ending was all that I hoped for! If you are looking for a very different but very sexy and fast-paced story, read The Delivery. You won’t soon forget Lana and Mozey.
Favorite quote
"Do you think that from a kiss you might see the rest of your future? That a kiss can dissolve all the fears you’ve held onto your entire life? Or that it could assure you that no mistakes were made in solidifying your destiny? That now was meant to be now and everything will turn out fine?"
