My, oh my, what a splendid book. I never read a book that includes crazy inventions, some call steampunk, but I call marvelous. Add the Sci-Fi angle of rips in space/time which lets through nasty aliens that cause trouble in the world; they are known as Outlanders. Enter Coyote, aka Charlotte Webb, she is tasked with finding the Outlanders through her employer, the Pinkerton's Agency. Coyote is a Bounty Hunter but she only hunts the guilty. She has a saddle mate, Caesar, who is an odd fellow. Together they travel the Old West, and other places including the space rips. They themselves are hunted by an enemy of evil proportions. Kind of yucky what it eats but hey, we all have to eat.

Through the course of their journeys many strange things happen which border on the paranormal. To me it was a whole lot of fun even with the bad stuff.

Ms. Noordeloos weaves a story I really enjoyed. Her descriptive and narrative getting me turning the pages. The effort she put into character building can clearly be seen and felt as the reader falls in to this story.

I would like to give you more but I dislike giving away plot points and twists. I want you to read this book.

Noordeloos creates the most amazing characters, sets them in a world reminiscent of Joss Whedon's Firefly, and brings them so completely to life it leaves you wondering if they're not, in fact, real.

Coyote has had a rough life. Her vengeance carries her through the roughest times. What will she do when she comes face to face with the source of her need for vengeance? You've got to read it to believe it.

Superb writing, realistic and relatable characters, and a well done plot mesh in this first book to perfectly launch a wonderful new series that has me hooked.
Let's see,
Western? Check.
Bounty Hunters? Check.
Beings from elsewhere? Check.

This book has so many things I enjoy that it was hard to put it down so I could sleep for my job.
The descriptions are vivid and strong enough to pull me right into the story as if I was in the room (invisible of course) and watching a real life movie happening around me.

Each character has been lovingly crafted to pop off of the pages.

Coyote as the lead will grab your heart, make you shy away a bit, and be just a tiny bit afraid of her. She's one of those perfect characters that you can hope to stumble upon when browsing books or ebooks looking for something new and fun to read.

This is the first part of a series, and I am champing at the bit for the next installments.

Coyote The Outlander is a fun and exciting ride that takes readers on a journey most unexpected. Part steampunk, part weird western, part science fiction, it is one of those rare books that sends the reader into a world they can get lost in. And in Coyote, Noordeloos has created a character that can stand with the best of them, and be a heroine for generations to come.

The story takes place in a world slightly off-kilter from our own. Magic and mechanical inventions exist side-by-side in the Old West, and bounty hunters track and kill aliens who slip through 'rips' and take up residence on Earth, unknown to most humans. Many of them are quite dastardly indeed, while others just want to live in peace. Coyote is the best bounty hunter in the country, and together with her sidekick Caesar, a former slave, she hunts down the biggest, baddest, nastiest Outlanders in the West. Her gunslinging abilities put Annie Oakley to shame, and her devil-may-care attitude will bring more than a few smiles to readers as she uses a combination of charm, sarcasm, and deadly force to accomplish her goals. Noordeloos also gives us excellent subplots and secondary characters, and weaves them together to provide complex twists in the story that keep the reader at the edge of their seat right to the very end.

An interesting group of people surround her from quiet associate Caesar to the wise shaman Tokala. The world is full of strangeness and wonder. There are twists and a few unexpected turns along the way. And all along, Coyote must make choices for good or for ill.

The task is simple kill the Outlander. And it is amazing how complicated such a simple thing can be. In the crossroads of America, Coyote will come to her own crossroads. Nothing worth doing is easy, and the hardest person to look at is the one in the mirror. Coyotes hunt and kill. But what a tragedy it would be for a young woman to turn into a beast...
