A Most Scandalous Proposal A Most Series Ashlyn Macnamara 9780345534743 Books
This is the first book I've read by Ashlyn Macnamara but it was a delight. A clever hommage to Sense and Sensibility, it tells the tale of two sisters, but is primarily about Miss Julia St. Claire, and her realization that she has found love in the most unlikely of men - her childhood friend, Benedict. Fans of the original Jane Austen book will certainly see nods to that novel, but those unfamiliar with it will still find this an adorable, engaging story full of heart, humor and a little steamy romance, too! A very enjoyable book which has found a spot on my "keeper" shelf! Can't wait to read her next book, A Most Devilish Rogue!Tags : A Most Scandalous Proposal (A Most Series) [Ashlyn Macnamara] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b>In Ashlyn Macnamara’s stunning romance debut—perfect for fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James,Ashlyn Macnamara,A Most Scandalous Proposal (A Most Series),Ballantine Books,0345534743,Romance - Historical - Regency,England - Social life and customs - 19th century,Love stories,Love stories.,Man-woman relationships,Mate selection,Regency fiction,Regency fiction.,Regency novels.,Scandals,AMERICAN HISTORICAL FICTION,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,FICTION Romance Historical General,FICTION Romance Historical Regency,FICTION Romance Historical Victorian,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,Great BritainBritish Isles,Historical romance,MASS MARKET,Regency novels,Romance - Historical - General,RomanceRegency,Romance: Regency,United States, historical romance; romance; regency romance; historical; victorian; books for women; relationship books; relationships; relationship; women's fiction; marriage; romance novels; pirates; love story; gothic; family; suspense; historical romance books; fiction; fiction books; romance books; regency; england; 18th century; love; mystery; 19th century; romantic suspense; medieval; spies; romantic; british history; revenge; espionage; novella; spy; twins; anthology; drama; royalty; adventure; romance novel; alpha male, historical romance;romance;regency romance;love;romance novels;victorian;romance books;fiction;novels;fiction books;books fiction;historical romance books;regency romance books;historical;england;relationships;mystery;spies;espionage;marriage;romantic suspense;spy;relationship books;drama;relationship;revenge;british history;family;books for women;alpha male;medieval;pirates;book series;twins;pregnancy;love story;heat;anthology;clean;contemporary romance;thrillers;royalty;adventure;woman;saga,FICTION Romance Historical General,FICTION Romance Historical Regency,FICTION Romance Historical Victorian,Romance - Historical - General,Fiction - Romance,American Historical Fiction,American Light Romantic Fiction,Regency novels,Fiction,Romance: Regency,Historical romance
A Most Scandalous Proposal A Most Series Ashlyn Macnamara 9780345534743 Books Reviews
This is a wonderful portrayal of two sisters in the Regency era with several "seasons" and proposals under their belts (skirts?) but to their parents chagrin, are holding out for what they really want. This tells the story of how both sisters find love in the most surprising way and not with whom they would expect.
I enjoyed becoming involved with the characters and their family and friends. I wish there were other sisters, so the story could continue!
This was a powerful first novel, couldn't stop reading it. Characters were great, never ending excitment throughout the book. Read right through it, easy to read. This is the first book in so far is a 2 book series. Because this is a new author for me to read I read the 2nd book first "A Most Devilish Rogue". I quickly ordered this book. Looking forward to more of her books.
A Most Scandalous Proposal was not what I expected, it was better. Miss MacNamara has hit it out of the part with her debut novel. A stubborn, but loyal heroine, a passionate hero and a lecherous villain all come together to make a fast paced, spicy read with well developed characters and plot.
I don't know how a reader could be confused by this story.....it flowed along nicely and without confusion for me. I greatly enjoyed a refreshing new take on writing about the period and it doesn't matter a whit if there is a word or phrase not in strict keeping with it. I recommend the book.
I have to say that I loved Upperton, the best friend of the main H, Benedict, the most and if the author writes a book about him, I'd be tempted to read it. He was warm and funny. I really struggled with the main h's(Julia) point of view, her reasons for not wanting love just didn't cut it for me. I honestly didn't like Julia's sister, Sophie either, she was self absorbed and really thick not to see what was so obvious about the object of her 5 year infatuation. I usually expect to like the main characters of my romance novels more. Both the H's weren't bad and in my opinion the h's were really lucky to get them.
This is such a precise and well-researched period romance. I can't believe it's her first novel. I actually had to grab a dictionary because of a few archaic words, which I rarely have to do unless I'm reading someone like Anthony Trollope. But that's not all. This is a genuinely fun read that will make you feel young again.
The story follows two sisters who have rejected several good suitors after being admitted into society. One sister, Sophia, has a Scarlett O'Hara vision of a man who is nothing but a bully and a jerk. She thinks she's in love with him until something happens that leads her to the arms of a better man. The other sister, Julia, has a problem giving her heart away. I think Ashlyn gives us enough of a description of her mother's character to understand why a dramatic event in Julia's childhood made her afraid of love. Their parents aren't in the best financial shape, so their mother is anxious to get them married off. Like all families, the parents have secrets that come out in the course of the rocky love lives of the two sisters. Ashlyn lets us see enough of the mother and father to feel some sympathy for them. The male love interests are a delight. I found myself rooting for both Benedict and Rufus from the start.
The story is fun, the pacing is good, and it's nice to read a sex scene that you don't regret reading.
