To Stand Beside Her B Kristin McMichael Books

To write this review! The story of Leila (a more kick butt female version of Robin Hood) and Nalick (a feared warrior king) is probably the most bittersweet love story I've read...at least in the last few years. I cannot get over the twist this book puts me through! Why? Ugh! The last chapter was pure torture!

The pacing was good. A lot happened and you're never bored. I didn't skim through any part of the book. There are several bad guys, but no true villain. You'll understand why when you read it. At fist Leila just felt a little too good to be true: beautiful, great at everything, etc..but the more she interacts with Nalick and others, the more you can see she isn't a one dimensional character. Nalick, just awesome guy. Didn't like him at first but totally reduced me to tears by the end of this book. Toward the middle of the book I found myself anxiously waiting to read his parts of the story.

Anatolio I liked in the beginning...then I tried to really not like him, but I just couldn't by the end of the story. The children were such a sweet part of the story too.

Oh just read it..you'll like it if not love it!

To Stand Beside Her B Kristin McMichael Books Reviews

She was so beautiful inside and out...she was slowed by clever men...and yet she loved even though she knew itd be only ten years....I loved this book...I didnt like how they handled what she would do when he was gone but I enjoyed the rest immensely. I cant remember if there was sex scenes...i dont think so.
Loved this story and its surprises. Like all her books Kristin has written another great novel. I have read every book she has out.
I have to say this book has stayed with me for a few days after reading it. The book was well written and I came to care about the characters. That says a lot for me. I can read 1-2 e-books a week. The characters were well developed and the adventures in the book kept me interested. Even the ending was needed. Some commenters didn't like it but I say that it closed the book so to speak so that you knew that "all" was right. I appreciated too that the book was clean with no sex in it. Thank you Kristin for a good book. I will look for other books by this author.
There were a couple times that the pace of the story felt slow to me and there seemed to be quite a lot of typos and inconsistencies in the story. Like a change had been made in the timing of the story, like two years instead of four years and all the places it said four years hadn't been changed to say two years. But despite that, the story itself was incredible and I couldn't stop reading. Now that it's over I can't stop thinking about the characters and their lives. The writing itself was amazing. I love them, feel with them, and wish they were still around for me to be with. The feelings seemed so true to the way life is and not typical when it comes to stories like this. It was soo good.
Lots of adventure, friendship, love, and family. Once again I was thoroughly lost in this beautiful story. I really identified with the strong female lead. I cried tears of every emotion! I had to wait to write this review - the ending left me blinded by my tears. This is a story that I will read again and again. It felt like a gift was given here from the author to us.
I love stories set in Medieval times, and this one doesn't disappoint! This author has created some complex, fascinating, engaging and interesting characters against an historically-relevant background, and an intriguing storyline. It is a delight to follow the main character Leila through all the different developments in the story, and follow her along her path of personal growth.

The supporting characters, Nalick and Kay, are equally engaging, interesting and complex. I love the style of writing - well-written and descriptive, with frequent observations of the small details, which greatly enhances the overall story (for example "he easily clasped her wrist between his thick, masculine fingers".)

It is actually similar to "Graceling" by Kristin Cashore, I find. Overall, it is an entertaining, intriguing and enjoyable read! Highly recommended!
This book is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. It is a difficult one to describe, but here goes. The main heroine is all you could want. She is kind, smart, capable, dangerous, feared, loved, and someone to look up to. The King is feared by all. When Leila, the main gal, sacrifices herself for her friend, entering into an unwilling marriage agreement with The King, Nalick, who is rude and known to be cruel, she thinks that she will hate him. After spending time with him, she finds out he is sweet, caring, and in love with her. A man that she grows to love in turn. (Not very complicated, but beautifully told.) Now for the icky bits. Although I fell in love with the characters, they felt unrealistic. They take all the punches thrown their way a little to easily. The way that some of the characters spoke occasionally distracted me, but not too much. Despite acknowledging that they were too perfect, I still fell in love with them. Their personalities drew me in and made me concerned for their well beings. Another thing, though, was that the pace was a bit rushed. I am a quick reader (a habit I am trying to break myself of) and occasionally had to go back a few paragraphs. The author would cover large amounts of time in a single bound. I read many slight complaints about the ending. I, .myself, tend to love tragedies, but also love a good ol` fashion happy ending, and this ending made my heart soar. It has to be one of the best endings that I have ever read. It made me just have to sit back in my chair and smile for a couple of minutes.I personally adored it, but if you are a huge believer of straightforward riding off into the sunset endings, this may not be your book. To wrap it all up, the only reasons I am only giving this book 4 stars is the couple of reasons listed above. Otherwise,I suggest this book strongly. Though not a very intellectually challenging book, it shall remain one of my favourites. All I have left to say is, if you cry easily, break out the tissues.
